Large language models (LLMs) are machine learning models that can process and generate human language using deep neural network architectures trained on massive amounts of text data. They have been used in a wide variety of use cases, including text classification, generation, summarization, and chat applications. However, in some circumstances, it is desirable to fine-tune an LLM on private data or perform specific tasks. In this session, we demonstrate how developers can perform the fine-tuning, using open source LLMs available from Hugging Face, on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Data Science, deploy the model, and then use it to perform inferencing in an Oracle APEX application.

Oracle Database 23ai introduced JSON Relational Duality Views (JRDV)—ground-breaking functionality that gave the flexibility of JSON documents with the advantages of the relational model. With it, a customer can use one centralized Oracle APEX monitoring application to keep an eye on multiple satellite installations of APEX applications for different customers. Runtime data of these APEX applications are sent from the satellites to the monitoring application using PL/SQL functions to code and decode the data, and Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) as the bridge in between. Taking this real-life project as a starting point, we demonstrate how using JRDV can have a huge impact on the complexity (and therefore, maintainability) of the code base.
